So today I was hired to film promo shots for a company that makes these LED wrist bands during Tiesto’s set in Aspen for the X-games. The band reads ‘Tiesto Club Life’, and they handed them out at the entrance to the concert to thousands of people. What’s cool is the bands are controlled by the lighting designer at the sound booth, and for most of the set they were turned off. After half the set, they turned off the crowd lights and turned these on, so all you could see was an ocean of led lights dancing in the dark, changing colors and flashing on and off at times. It was pretty cool to see. It was my job to get video of the crowd sporting these wristbands and going crazy to the music. I pretty much could do whatever I wanted when I was there. I got to shoot from the stage, shoot in the photo pit long after they kicked out the photographers, and go to the vip tent and backstage area. It was pretty rad, and a lot of my friends were working security at the show.
I had no idea who Tiesto was before this, but he walked right by me on the way to the stage. My roommate, who happened to be working the gate asked him who he was and he said he was the DJ. we looked at each other, confused. I finally realized it was him when a fan about five feet in front of me asked to shake his hand and started freaking out. Apparently he is a big deal. I was shocked by this, because he mostly just spun remixes of other people’s songs. I guess people are into that thing. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after I over heard what he was getting paid to play in aspen. Overall, it was a pretty good time, and I got a lot of really good footage. Hopefully I will get to see the final promo when it is done and I can share it with you guys. Maybe ill post a clip of what I shot tonight.
